The website for the Nordic World Heritage Conference 2024 has been launched, and its domain name is https://nordicworldheritage2024.org. Along with the website’s publication, ticket sales have commenced. The conference offers intriguing presentations from cutting-edge world heritage experts, site visits, tours, and opportunities for networking.

The 2024 conference will take place in Jyväskylä and Petäjävesi from September 2 to September 5, 2024. The theme of the conference is ”World Heritage: From Interpretation to Communication.” This year, we aim to explore practices and experiences related to integrating interpretation work into the daily communication of world heritage sites. Therefore, the focus of the conference is on transitioning from interpretation to effective communication. This may involve various customer service situations, such as guided tours, flyer and website content, sales pitches, or grant applications. The central question is: How can we effectively communicate the value and uniqueness of world heritage to our stakeholders and the public?

The Nordic World Heritage Conference is an annual event of the Nordic World Heritage Association (NWHA). The NWHA supports best practices in World Heritage Management across the Nordic Countries, fostering knowledge-sharing and the implementation of the World Heritage Convention. Conference hosting duties rotate among NWHA members, and this year’s hosts are the Foundation of Petäjävesi Old Church and the National Land Survey of Finland in cooperation with UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Finland. The conference’s target audience includes NWHA members, stakeholders, national groups, networks, and others with an interest in World Heritage. In other words, participants will primarily be experts in the World Heritage field, but everyone is welcome! See you in September!
