Food and restaurants

In Petäjävesi, café and restaurant services are provided by e.g. restaurant KanttariPetäjäveden Pizzeria & KebabHeinähattu, serivce station KyläseppäSoppaGrilli23 and Hakamaa sheep farm. During the summer, visitors are also typically served by the Lemettilä farm barn café. We recommend checking the opening hours of the cafés and restaurants before visiting. You can also enjoy your own snacks on the church stairs and in the yard.

Sheeps are grazing on the pastures of the old church in the summer

Ten Finnsheep graze on the pastures of the Old Church in the summer, helping preserve the traditional biotope of the church’s surroundings. Please remember that, due to safety concerns, the electric fence should not be touched and the sheep should not be fed. Please keep your dogs on a leash in the yard.

Photography

Taking photographs for personal use is allowed in the Old Church. Photography for commercial purposes should be agreed on separately. Please remember that walking and taking photos in the church during a service is disruptive to the occasion. Avoid taking photos when a service is in progress.

Toilets

There is no indoor toilet in the Old Church, but the yard is equipped with outhouses that can be used in the summer. One of the outhouses is accessible to wheelchair users.

Accessibility

The Petäjävesi Old Church is not fully barrier-free. The building is old, its floors are not completely level, and some thresholds are high. The stairs outside the building are also quite steep. Wheelchair access to the Old Church is currenlty unavailable. People with reduced mobility can drive closer to the church from the north via the road Siltatie.
